NYS Department of Health Regional Asthma Coalitions have been awarded state grants to reduce the burden of asthma in New York State. The coalitions, programs of the American Lung Association, are funded to implement interventions in counties with high rates of asthma-related hospitalizations and emergency department visits. The coalitions identify and focus services on high-risk populations within their regions, convene and engage local stakeholders, and apply a population-based, systems change approach that translates the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program, Expert Panel Report-3 Asthma Guideline into practice. This initiative aims to increase the quality of life among individuals living with asthma and to decrease the number of asthma-related hospitalizations, emergency department visits, urgent care visits and school or workdays lost.
