Asthma Educator

Allied health professionals earn continuing education credits by taking this course which is structured around NAEPP’s “Four Components of Asthma Management” and contains 12 modules of self-paced study. Completing the course will expand your knowledge of these four components which include: information on assessment and monitoring, control of environmental factors, pharmacologic management, and patient education. Course content conforms with the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP) 2007 Expert Panel Report 3: Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma.

Reproducible fact sheets for patients on 50 asthma and allergy topics. Information is written in a patient-friendly question and answer format and packaged in a durable binder for easy storage and use. Some topics include: adult onset of asthma; childhood asthma; food allergies; latex allergy; asthma medications; anti-IgE therapy for asthma, gastroesophageal reflux disease and obesity. The appendix provides an extensive list of helpful web sites with additional information for patients and caregivers on health insurance, prescription assistance, clinical trials, healthy homes and more.

This resource is two “scripts” to help patients or parents of children who have asthma know what questions to ask their provider during an asthma visit. There is also a supplemental document titled “Your health care provider may ask you…”.
