Susan Steppe, the Project Director of CHAMP, discusses winning the 2015 National Environmental Leadership Award in Asthma Management and her program's work to serve a subset of asthma patients, focusing on children who are most at risk for multiple or severe asthma exacerbations that would result in unplanned medical encounters in the emergency department or hospital.

Asthma Awareness Event in East St. Louis! This event will feature asthma and health resources, activity tables, refreshments, AND special guests-- St. Louis Cardinal's Fredbird and the JJK Healthy Dancers. The East St. Louis Mayor will make an official Asthma Proclamation highlighting May as Asthma Awareness Month. There will also be a special message delivered by Jackie Joyner Kersee, one of the all-time greatest olympic track star's that knows first hand the impact asthma can have on one's daily activities!

Community Health Worker Certification Programs on the Rise: A 2015 State Legislative Update

Recently, there has been an increased effort among states to create Community Health Worker (CHW) certification programs. Currently in 2015, two states, Florida (HB 285/SB 482) and North Dakota (SB 2321), are considering CHW certification bills. In 2014, three states, Illinois (HB 5412), Maryland (HB 856/SB 592) and New Mexico (SB 58), enacted legislation establishing a CHW certification program.
