Open Airways for School empowers children in grades 3-5 to manage their asthma through an interactive teaching curriculum that brings together children with asthma, their families, and school personnel.
As a school nurse, I became involved in the Asthma Coalition of Nassau/Suffolk in order to best serve the needs of our asthmatic children. Together we have brought educational, programs to the community in our local Long Beach Memorial Hospital, our Library and our Martin Luther King Center. As an after school program I offer the Open Airways for Schools for a select 10 students each year for the last 10 years.
