Asthma 411 is a school-based initiative developed and evaluated to reduce morbidity due to asthma. The project began in 2001 when the St. Louis Regional Asthma Consortium was awarded one of eight Controlling Asthma in American Cities Project (CAAC) grants from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Asthma 411 is composed of a variety of key elements or strategies that a school can choose to use based on their current capacities, the most critical of which is the utilization of a Consulting Physician. Schools using Asthma 411 have seen a statistically significant
• increase in identification of students with asthma
• decrease in children sent home due to asthma
• increase in physician written Asthma Action Plans
• decrease in 911 Calls
• decrease in absences due to asthma
