The Asthma Alliance was intiated in 1997 and currently consists of 10 corporate sponsors and 63 individual members. Annual screening of all Head Start applicants in Marion and Hamilton counties including on-going education and support. Free educational programs targeting schools reach over 9,000 participants and 135 groups each year. Sponsor a World Asthma Day poster contest and awards ceremony for children K-8 involving many community partners. Unique asthma referral service ranging from Public Health Nurses, Indoor Air Specialist, Asthma Educator, Social Worker, Insurance Coverage Specialist, and smoking cessation services. Advocates for public policies that aid in increasing the quality of life for those affected by asthma. Actively participate in the Indiana Joint Asthma Coaltion to plan and implement the Indiana State Asthma Plan. Partner with other community groups to increase public awareness of asthma. Home, school, and work environmental assessments are offered to anyone referred to the asthma referral service.
Asthma Alliance of Indianapolis (AAI) membership consists of more than 60 diverse partners from area health care, educational, business, and social service organizations.
