The purpose of the District of Columbia Control Asthma Now (DC CAN) program is to empower individuals, communities, and the Department of Health to improve asthma diagnosis and management through public health initiatives.
That includes: improving healthcare access and quality, increasing asthma awareness and community involvement, establishing asthma friendly environments, enhancing asthma surveillance and evaluation, promoting asthma self-management education, reducing environmental exposures, thus establishing asthma-friendly environments, addressing socioeconomic disparities, and formulating policy change.
