Our goal is to decrease asthma morbidity and mortality through direct intervention/education in homes and provide asthma education throughout the community with many venues such as: Asthma 101 for teachers and other caregivers, generalized education at health fairs, church communities, and parent-teacher organizations. Our outcomes have been very significant at the hospital we are based at we have dropped emergency room visits for asthma by 63% and it is now the third reason children are admitted to the hospital. We have improved countywide with asthma morbidity as evidenced by the statistics provided in our state website-www.getasthmahelp.org. We provide a two-day asthma camp for children ages 7-12 free of charge where we provide a lot of physical activity and asthma education. Our coalition also provides resources and referrals to the community at large for asthma questions, problems, or barriers that might be affecting their ability to keep their asthma in control-such as referrals for insurance, searching the community for a dehumidifier, etc.
