The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) and the Alabama Department of Public Health have recently partnered on a joint initiative that is designed to increase asthma awareness and provide Alabama school children with important information on how to minimize the impacts of asthma. The ADEM Office of Environmental Justice initiated this effort as part of the implementation of its EJ Action Plan. The EJ Action Plan has numerous goals and objectives with one of those being a reduction in the number of asthma attacks. The partnership between ADEM and ADPH will allow each agency to leverage its limited resources and maximize the impact of this effort. The two agencies are currently developing brochures and educational information that will be distributed to school children who suffer with asthma. A website is also being developed to provide additional information.
