Jefferson County Public Schools' indoor air quality program utilizes integrated pest management, environmental compliance, and other environmental interventions and controls to reduce children's exposure to environmental pollutants and triggers of asthma at school.
JCPS has 159 schools including 89 elementaries with 100,000 students. Our indoor air quality program is part of the Safety and Environmental Office and has been active for 15 years. It has been awarded the EPA Tools for Schools Excellence and National Model of Sustained Excellence awards. As program director I am also in charge of integrated pest management, environmental compliance, and chemicals. We continually strive to improve the program and keep abreast of new research and develpoments. Ours is both a proactive and quick response program seeking short and long term solutions.
