Kern County Department of Public Health reduces the burden of asthma through collaborative activities that are conceptualized, developed, implemented, and evaluated by community and county asthma stakeholders/leaders through a comprehensive and inclusive assessment of assets, needs, and priorities.

1. Reduce the burden of asthma through collaborate activities that are conceptualized, developed,
implemented, and evaluated by community and county asthma stakeholders/leaders through a
comprehensive and inclusive assessment of assets, needs, and priorities.
2. Build and improve local health department (LHD) capacity to reduce the burden of asthma in
California counties highly impacted by asthma.
3. Develop sustainable processes and resources that will effectively reduce the burden of asthma in up
to six California counties.
4. Align the county-level needs assessment and related activities with the goals and objectives
included in the new Strategic Plan for Asthma in California, 2008-2012.
5. Support the dissemination of best practice tools and process created and evaluated by counties
involved in this project to other California counties and LHDs.
