MATH is a collaborative effort between many partners to provide wrap-around services to children suffering with high risk or severe persistent asthma.

The MATH program was started in 2018 and is a coalition between Akron Children's Hospital, Summit County Public Health and managed care organizations to assist children between the ages of 4 and 17 with severe persistent or high risk asthma. This is accomplished by coordinating with the hospital, health department and insurance company to assess the living environment and provide equipment to reduce asthma triggers in the home. A two year study was completed and ACT scores, hospitalization usage and costs were tracked. The results showed that the program reduced the need for hospital or ED usage by over 2/3 and the benefits far outweighed the costs of the program. After the research study was completed, a managed care organization, Buckeye Health Plan, was brought into the coalition in 2024. Another managed care organization donated operating funds to the program in 2026. As part of the partnership, expansion to other health departments are providing services for clients in other counties as well.
