The Pennsylvania Department of Health Asthma Control Program works to improve the health and quality of life of all Pennsylvania residents affected by asthma.
Through a collaboration of the Pennsylvania Department of Health and stakeholders representing organizations and agencies with a common interest in asthma control and representing a diversity of asthma expertise, improve the health status and quality of life of all Pennsylvania residents affected by asthma by:
- Establishing a surveillance system for asthma in Pennsylvania.
- Reducing the environmental causes and triggers of asthma and reducing the effects of occupation/work related asthma.
- Making the general public more aware of asthma symptoms, impacts, and treatments and focusing on schools and community resources to educate patients on asthma self-management.
- Increasing healthcare provider use of evidence-based, national asthma treatment guidelines.
- Reducing the disproportionately high asthma burden seen in racial and ethnic minorities and among other underserved and vulnerable populations in Pennsylvania.
- Changing public policy to improve asthma care.
