Safe at Home program is a home-based multi-component education and environmental remediation. Eligible participants are required to have a child between the ages of 2-14 years who has been diagnosed with asthma and resides in Baltimore City.

The Coalition to End Childhood Lead Poisoning is a non-profit organization that provides FREE comprehensive housing intervention services to improve the health, safety and quality of life for residents. Qualifying, income-eligible residents in Baltimore City can receive improvements to their home to eliminate the environmental hazards that contribute to asthma, lead poisoning, and household injuries. The Safe at Home Program utilizes a comprehensive assessment tool to identify environmental health hazards (lead dust, indoor allergens, mold, safety hazards, radon, etc.) within each client’s household and offers an integrated delivery system of evidence-based best practice interventions. The program also provides health education from an asthma specialist to promote sustainable behavior change through training and materials (HEPA vacuum, Green Healthy Homes cleaning and safety kit, a de-humidifier for the child’s bedroom, mite-proof bed and pillow coverings, etc.). The Coalition has been a local and national leader in the prevention of lead poisoning for over 20 years and now strives to eliminate all environmental health hazards in the home. To better coordinate environmental health services, the Coalition has established the Green and Healthy Homes Initiative in Baltimore City in partnership with HUD, DOE, CDC, EPA, the City of Baltimore and other key partners. The Green and Healthy Homes Initiative is committed to reducing environmental health hazards that contribute to pediatric asthma and lead poisoning, while also reducing the incidents of injuries or death related to safety issues within the household. Our role at the Coalition is to assist you with additional information on the role of environmental health and housing intervention services in disease prevention and management.
