The Washington State Asthma Program is currently funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to:
Focus asthma-related activities statewide. Develop, implement and update a comprehensive state plan to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and management of asthma by using a public health approach which includes all people with asthma, especially those who are untreated or under-treated.
Increase understanding of asthma-related data.
Identify and review existing research and provide routine data updates to stakeholders, including publishing and updating The Burden of Asthma in Washington State report.
Maintain a public-private partnership with the Washington Asthma Initiative (WAI), a statewide coalition dedicated to mobilizing individuals, organizations, and communities throughout the state to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and management of asthma in order to decrease its individual and societal burdens.
