Chemical Insights Research Institute of Underwriters Laboratories

A multiyear study conducted by the Chemical Insights Research Institute of Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) found that, when in use, 3D printers release a complex mixture of pollutants into the air. These emissions include volatile organic compounds and very small particles called ultrafine particles, which can cause occupant discomfort and health issues.

There are strategies to mitigate these emissions and make use of this innovate technology in classrooms. To promote these strategies, Chemical Insights is offering a wall poster highlighting how to safely use 3D printers in schools. To request a free printed 18” x 24” poster, please email chemicalInsights@ul.org.
