One of the things we have encountered with our program is that there is a barrier in communications in regards to being able to get a hold of families via email, phone call, text message, mail and unannounced visits.
What are the methods that your program employs to engage families and promote participation?

We reach out to potential participants primarliy through their health care providers, whom they know and trust. The provider asks the patieint at clinic visit or mails a letter inviting the patient to participate in the program. Then the CHW follows up. Another way that has worked is for school nurses to identify students with asthma who might benefit from home visits and recommend visits to parents. So bottom line is to approach potential participants through someone they know and trust.
