Better Understanding Home Assessment

I would like to better understand about home assessment...if one is making a decision about triggers, can we assume ALL those patients have been allergy tested?

I am the Air Quality Coordinator for the Kickapoo Tribe Environmental Department.  I work strickly on grant programs and am trying to push for better Asthma assessments and gaining access to tribal members in the community.  I have an assessment that is pretty cumbersome and would like to find one a little more user friendly.  The second is I am starting in October partnering with the tribal clinic to get montly numbers of Asthma issues and running that against what the weather pattern and farming activities are that day or week and putting out an analysis of that.  What do you think my chances are of getting a good data analysis of the age groups of Asthma patients would be and could I coorlate that to the local farming activities as I believe that is one of the major causes of Asthma issues on this reservation.  Coupled with a ton of dogs and cats, mold issues in the home and probably a bit of smoking too.  I have not been able to gain access through the housing department yet as they may have to fix issues that I will find.  I feel I have my hands tied sometimes and just want a better understanding of how to gain the trust and accesses

Hopefully, you were able to join last week's webinar on tribal asthma programs.  It will be archived soon.

Above are a couple of resources that you may find useful.

Whew! Lots of good questions here. I'll reply to each one:

Question: I am the Air Quality Coordinator for the Kickapoo Tribe Environmental Department.  I work strickly on grant programs and am trying to push for better Asthma assessments and gaining access to tribal members in the community.  I have an assessment that is pretty cumbersome and would like to find one a little more user friendly.

Reponse: There are several out there including an excellent simple document from EPA, one from CDC, one from Surgeon Gen, and many others. Happy to share ours as well If you email me.

EPA: https://www.epa.gov/asthma/asthma-home-environment-checklist

Surgeon Gen. : https://www.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/healthy-homes-checklist.pdf

Response: Considering all the issues you described, it might be better to talk on the phone. I'm happy to discuss omse of these challenges with you. Which Kickapoo nation location are you with? Are you in Kansas? Feel to contact me at the information provided.

I am in Horton Kansas and would actually like to schedule a one on one at the Kansas Hospital at your convience.  The Asthma issues are what the tribe wants to focus on along with the air sampling I do with the CASTNET system.  I am about to take a course next week on R data analysis.  I try not to get too far ahead of myself but I can see the potential to have a comprehensive asthma report to deliver to the tribe and to other tribes throughout the US.  I would appreciate a one on one with you when you can fit me in :)
