The Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University and its partners, the Merck Childhood Asthma Network and First Focus, established the Coalition in 2011 to address this growing public health challenge, which disproportionately affects low-income and minority children. The Coalition includes a cross-section of experts and organizations from a range of fields including housing, environmental health, health care delivery, health economics and public policy. By working together, the Coalition aims to accelerate prevention and improve the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of childhood asthma through targeted state and federal efforts. The Coalition also works to address barriers that prevent children from accessing the health care services they need to control and manage asthma. The Coalition is currently funded with generous support from the Kresge Foundation.
