Houston Independent School District's "Clearing the Air About Asthma in Schools" is a CDC-funded program that seeks to improve the quality of life for students with asthma through self management education and skill development.

"Clearing the Air About Asthma in Schools" is a CDC funded program that seeks to improve the quality of life for students with asthma. This will be done by increasing asthma management, as well as increasing the self management skills of the student by asthma education. This program uses CDC''s 6 "Strategies for Addressing Asthma" in a "Coordinated School Health program." The asthma strategies are 1)establishing/implementing management and support systems for Asthma Friendly Schools; 2)providing health and mental health services for the students with asthma; 3)providing ashtma education for the student and school staff; 4) providing a safe and healthy school environment which decreases environmental triggers; 5)providing a safe and fun PE and activities for students and 6)involving family, community and students in efforts to increase management and decrease absences. "Asthma Friendly Schools" support students with asthma, by ensuring a safer and more supportive learning environments.They empower not only students with asthma, but the entire school/community.
