This infographic was created to highlight the issues and create awareness of childhood asthma. 

Asthma affects 7 million children in the US and is the leading cause of chronic illness in children.

It can often be hard to diagnose due to symptoms similar to other illnesses, and the fact that not all children have the same symptoms.

It is very challenging to diagnose asthma in under 5’s. The symptoms can be caused by various other illnesses, and young children do not understand well enough to use the breathing equipment that a test requires.

The Massachusetts Strategic Plan for Asthma is the first state asthma plan in the nation to address how primary prevention can reduce the onset of asthma. This Strategic Plan outlines goals and funding mechanisms to promote partnerships and services that ensure healthy populations stay that way: healthy and asthma-free.

The tools and information in this guidance will help keep the air clean where many Americans spend up to 90 percent of their time – indoors.  Some of the biggest threats to indoor air quality stem from moisture issues. Leaking roofs, plumbing problems, condensation issues, poor indoor humidity control, and lack of drainage around the base of buildings are  some of the commonly reported causes of moisture problems in the United States.  These problems can not only threaten the structural integrity of buildings, they can also increase exposure to mold and other biological contaminants. Such exposure is associated with increases in the occurrence and severity of allergies, asthma and other respiratory illnesses.
