Wellapets - Asthma Education Pets for phones and tablets!

Wellapets is an educational virtual pet game for phones and tablets which teaches and motivates kids ages 6-11 to manage asthma by caring for a lovable pet that also has asthma. Wellapets is created by LifeGuard Games in Boston with pediatricians and other clinicians in the area.

In Wellapets, kids adopt their own Wellapet from the App Store, Google Play or Amazon Appstore, play games with it, collect gifts for its home and ultimately take care of their pet. Wellapets has been designed with clinician input such that care for the pet teaches kids what they need to know to manage their own asthma.

Our educational content focuses on: controller inhaler technique and timing, trigger avoidance and symptom recognition and action according to an Asthma Action Plan.

We've been featured in MobiHealthNews, CBS, asth.ma and Bostinno!

Wood Smoke and Asthma Public Service Announcements

Sponsoring Program:
EPA’s Burn Wise program has developed the following public service announcements (PSAs) to promote cleaner wood-burning. The videos highlight the health effects related to PM exposure from residential wood smoke. These PSAs are free to use for air quality agencies, chimney sweeps, hearth retailers and others who want to promote the Burn Wise message.

EPA’s Burn Wise program encourages communities and their citizens to implement safe burning practices by emphasizing the importance of burning the right wood, the right way, in the right wood-burning appliance.

During the wintertime, residential wood smoke is a main contributor to fine particle pollution and is responsible for poor air quality days in many areas across the United States. Particle pollution in wood smoke can affect everyone, but children, teenagers, older adults, people with lung disease, including asthma and COPD, or people with heart disease are the most vulnerable.

Particle pollution exposure can lead to a variety of health effects. For example, numerous studies link particle levels to increased hospital admissions and emergency room visits—and even to early death.  Research indicates that obesity or diabetes may increase risk. New or expectant mothers may also want to take precautions to protect the health of their babies.
