Webinar: Virtual Asthma Home Visits

Sponsoring Program Name:
Regional Asthma Management and Prevention (RAMP)
In light of the many changes that the coronavirus pandemic is creating, on April 3, 2020, RAMP hosted a webinar, Virtual Asthma Home Visits to learn more about virtual asthma home visits, share resources, and try to solve challenges related to implementation.

The webinar featured Nikita Kachroo, AE-C, from Children’s National Hospital. Before the coronavirus outbreak, Nikita and her colleagues were already implementing a virtual asthma home visiting program. She shared lessons learned and challenges from her program. We also had time for participants to share resources and advice from their own work, and we provided a brief update about what we’re learning about the implications of COVID-19 on people with asthma.

Clearing the Air: An Asthma Toolkit for Healthy Schools

Sponsoring Program Name:
Health Resources in Action
In any given classroom, at least two or three students are likely to have asthma. Clearing the Air: An Asthma Toolkit for Healthy Schools is a new toolkit containing sample policy language, best practices, and curated resources & tools to help schools create an asthma-friendly environment. This is a project of the MA Asthma Action Partnership, Health Resources in Action, and the MA DPH’s Asthma Prevention and Control Program.

Improving the air quality inside and outside of school buildings can improve students’ health and readiness to learn. The Massachusetts Asthma Action Partnership (MAAP), in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Asthma Prevention and Control Program (APCP), and Health Resources in Action, have developed a new resource, Clearing the Air: An Asthma Toolkit for Healthy Schools to help schools create an asthma-friendly learning and working environment. This toolkit contains sample policy language, best practices, and curated resources and tools. Nine policy and practice areas have been identified as target areas to help improve air quality:

  • School-wide environmental health and safety management
  • Green cleaning and environmental purchasing programs
  • Integrated pest management
  • Leaks and moisture
  • Clutter
  • Outdoor air pollution
  • Fragrance
  • Tobacco
  • Clinical asthma management in the school setting

Teachers’ Asthma Toolkit

Sponsoring Program Name:
Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ
Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ are marking this year’s World Asthma Day with the launch of a revolutionary new online ‘Teachers’ Asthma Toolkit’.

This is a first for New Zealand and has been developed over the past twelve months. The toolkit is designed for teachers to have all the important information about asthma in one place. The Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ has been working alongside ‘Cognition Education Group’ in order to launch this new online tool. The ‘Teachers’ Asthma Toolkit’ is accessed via an interactive website www.learnaboutlungs.org.nz

It’s a quick and easy way for teachers to learn all the necessary information about asthma. It includes video clips, animations, classroom resources and child friendly activities. We know it’s important as statistics show that there will be at least four children in a class of 30 students with asthma.
