The asthma and allergy project provides free services (English/Spanish). Services consists of home visits by asthma home educators. Some of our key discussions cover what cuases asthma, how to prevent asthma attacks, how asthma medications help, and condition in the home and outdoors that bring on an asthma attack.

Center for Pediatric Medicine Asthma Action Team

The Center for Pediatric Medicine Asthma Action Team is a multidisciplinary, multilingual, family-centered program within a primary care outpatient office. Our team of pediatricians, respiratory therapy, nurses, social work, translators and community parents provide clinical care, case management and environmental control home visits for children and adolescents with asthma. Our mission for education extends to families as well as to the residents and medical students who train in the Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center.

Food Allergies in Childcare Centers

The Center for Managing Chronic Disease is investigating a uniform approach for prevention, recognition, and intervention of food related reactions. With the collaboration of the Center, Harvey L. Leo, MD is leading an intervention at eight local University of Michigan Daycare centers. These facilities are incorporating a systematic approach to educate parents, children, and staff of food allergies in hopes of improving parental and staff anxiety regarding food allergies and reduce the possibility of food reactions.

We are a privately funded clinic located in Central Texas that has a total of 6 locations. We service 25,000 kids which are mainly Medicaid or CHiPs (Children Health Insurance Program) patients. Over the last 5 years we have seen over 3000 patients at least once. Our disease management program follows-up with our asthma patients every 3 - 6 months. We combine education, demonstration and provider involvement to achieve better symptom control. Emergency room admissions have been decreased and symptom control have been achieved. We combine proper control medication and environmental awareness to achieve these improvements.

UAB Pediatric Asthma Program at Children's Hospital

UAB Pediatric Asthma Program at The Children's Hospital of Alabama (aka Asthma Clinic) is staffed by a physician, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and a social worker all dedicated to providing excellent medical care and asthma self-management education for this high risk population.

Our comprehensive allergy & asthma program provides allergy testing, immunotherapy, spirometry testing & bronchodilator treatments. Our program emphasizes education regarding these chronic medical conditions and coping strategies for our patients and their families. This year, to increase the awareness to asthma & allergies in our community, we will conduct two free public events on May 1 and May 22, 2010, providing screening spirometry testing, handouts, fliers, brochures & literature on asthma and allergies. The events will be broadcasted on the local radio stations and posted in the local newspaper.
